Gherkin Art House is a creative partnership producing exciting wall design run by Kasia and Yolka, two of Bradford College's BA (Hons) Fine Art alumni.
It has been a great pleasure (and great fun!) to welcome Kasia and Yolka back to the Textile Archive, since they graduated in 2013 and started their business. Not just one visit I hasten to add, these talented fine artists are fast becoming ‘regulars’! Initially researching the books we hold from students of their native Poland, Yolka and Kasia are now firmly engrossed in the Denholme Velvets Collection, a stunning collection of 23 French, Victorian era pattern books dating from 1855. These books hold exquisite, high end silk samples of many woven construction techniques: brocades, extra warp/weft figuring, gauzes, printed warp, pile fancies, complex jacquards and intricate prints. We even found a knitted sample!
We can’t wait to see the drawings or wall murals this collection inspires!
