Textile Manufactures of India Collection

In 1866, John Forbes Watson, Secretary of State to India, compiled an 18 volume series of South Asian textiles from examples shown at the 1855 Paris Exhibition, and presented 1 of only 20 sets to Bradford Chamber of Commerce. A second series was compiled and purchased by Bradford in 1872; these fabrics include functional woollens, block print designs and highly decorative fabrics woven with gold.
