We are indebted to The Clothworkers Company, who generously gave us a grant for digitisation, allowing us to make our collections more accessible while preserving precious materials which could be damaged by repeated handling.
We are delighted to be custodians of the archives of the Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC). The Turkey Red collection is a significant element of the SDC archive. We have digitised this material as a priority so that it can be accessed remotely by researchers for Colouring the Nation, a collaborative research project run by the University of Edinburgh and the National Museums Scotland. The project is investigating the cultural and global impact of Scotland’s decorative textile industry, of which Turkey Red is of primary interest. You can read more about this in the project blog.
