Bradford College Textile Archive welcomes researchers to our superb light and airy reading room in Bradford College’s Old Building. Originally the site of the Technical Laboratory, the racks of chemicals, test tubes, carboys and Bunsen burners have now been replaced with four solid oak reading tables, each three metres long. The room still retains many of the original features including the beautifully carved roof timbers with turned supports, high windows and roof windows, which help create a spacious, peaceful atmosphere.
Cataloguing and digitisation of our vast collections is ongoing – Bradford was a hugely successful international centre of textile manufactures and so generated an enormous amount of goods! If you can’t find what you’re looking for in our online search facility please have a friendly chat with our Curator who will be happy to help with your enquiry.
The Old Building has a café on the ground floor where you can purchase beverages and snacks until 3pm.
Visits are booked in advance via our appointment request form, you can download it here.
We look forward to welcoming you soon.
